Animation Screening and Workshop

Vault Gallery | Project Space
18 December 7pm

Raising funds for Haneen Muhammad Koraz, animator and educator working with displaced children and women in Gaza. A screening of the children’s work will be followed by a workshop making our own zoetrope animations with Stephen Mullan.

Film maker, film educator and AAG member Stephen Mullan, has been doing workshops in Victorian (pre cinema) animation for so long he's now convinced he was there for the first screening of the Lumiere Brother’s films.

Join Stephen in the wonders of creating Thaumatropes and Zeotropes the simple basis and fun way to animate.

Can't draw? That’s ok, you can colour in. This was the stay at home, Saturday night creative entertainment before cinema, radio and TV came into our lives.

“I deeply believe that every person has the right to express himself freely, and that art, making and learning cartoon films is one of the means of free expression, audio-visually, for all segments of society. I tried to change the reality, even if just a little, for the children and women in the tents I have conducted workshops specifically for children. Children and women draw, color, discuss, play, learn using the photography program, photograph scenes, write stories that express their suffering and reality, draw cartoon characters, and record their voices on film.” Haneen Muhammad Koraz

Leo is doing a thing.

It’s a bit of a wild card this one as it’s the sort of event that should be run in the summer with the sun blaring and the doors open, people milling on the street as the hip-hop carries you through the long days… But it is winter and winter needs some POP too!

Based upon Keith Haring’s Pop Shop in New York, Leo’s Belfast Pop Shop takes art, shopping, Christmas & Godzilla and remixes them to create something new and probably a bit bonkers.

As well as original prints, paintings and new merch, the Belfast Pop shop has live T-shirt printing, mulled wine, music by the very talented Violently Ill, festive installations (including Godzilla Santa) and much more.

This is a family and dog friendly event.

Launch Night: 13 December 6–9 pm

Saturday and Sunday 12–6 pm each day.
