‘Computer Says No’

New Drawings by Leo Boyd

Vault Artist Studios Gallery | Project Space
6 June – 12 June 2024

As a much younger man, Leo would spend his waking hours sketching panels and lines in the hope that one day his dream of becoming a comic artist would come true. His first job after finishing art school was as a comic artist in residence in an art centre in Brussels. However, the glamorous life of a sequential artist was not to be, so Leo continued on the path of making art as a silk screen printer – an art form that involves a lot of bending over a laptop and staring at a screen…

In this new series, Leo has ditched the computer and picked up the pen again to create a series of single-panel comics that try to make sense of the increasingly bonkers world around us.

Computer Says No is a new, never-before-seen collection of drawings, animation and full sized hand drawn cardboard cut-out installations that draw from an archive of half-finished sketchpads that Leo has left in his wake.

On Saturday the 8 June from 12 midday until 4 pm, Leo will be hand screen-printing audience members t-shirts with a signature drawing from the exhibition.
