A conversation with stained glass artist Kerrie Hanna and Marie Lynch, Curator of the Centre for the Study of Irish Art.

Background

Éiru’s Welcome: A Panel for All was commissioned by the Gallery’s Centre for the Study of Irish Art to mark the occasion of the exhibition ‘An Túr Gloine: Artists and the Collective’. Taking inspiration from the An Túr Gloine archive, Belfast artist Kerrie Hanna created this stained glass panel as part of a cross-border community engagement project, realised in collaboration with the Gallery Youth Panel. Kerrie and the Youth Panel co-created a stained glass design that responds creatively to the An Túr Gloine exhibition, drawing on Irish mythology and celebrating the shared island of Ireland as a collective of diverse stories, lives and experiences.

In this free event, Marie and Kerrie will share insights into the themes, processes and archive collections that inspired the artwork, with a focus on Kerrie’s achievements in merging the traditional craft of stained glass with contemporary socially engaged practices.

Éiru’s Welcome: A Panel for All is the first stained glass artwork commissioned by the National Gallery of Ireland, and will be on display as part of this event. The commission was supported by the Esmé Mitchell Trust.
